Taking a Train to Mt Fuji, Japan

A few hour train ride from Tokyo sits one of the most iconic mountains in the entire world. What makes Mount Fuji so infamous is that it sits on its own amongst many small mountains. This allows for great views of the mountain from any side.

It’s generally pretty easy to get to Mt Fuji from Tokyo by train. We were able to find our train from Tokyo Station pretty easily too.  If there is one tip you take from this, buy you tickets well in advance! These tickets sell out pretty fast and it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find a seat the day of your trip. We didn’t realize this and we had to find another option.

There is another option though and that is to stand all 3 hours on the train. There aren’t designated standing rooms either so it can be a little awkward finding spots to stand without getting in the way of other passengers. It can be a bumpy ride and we ended up standing in between two train cars which made it pretty uncomfortable.

As soon as you arrive, you’re transported into a different universe than the major city you left just a few hours ago. There’s plenty of activities and attractions to check out around Mt Fuji before you get to the Mountain too.

Fortunately, there’s a bus that you can catch for every stop you need. I thought that we may be in the area for just a few hours but we ended up staying the entire day checking out the small town that surrounds Mt Fuji.

The only thing that covers the mountain… the fog. Unfortunately, most of the days around this natural wonder are extremely foggy which can prevent seeing the mountain’s beautiful peak.

Unfortunately, our view was covered for a majority of the time we were there.

We even took the gondola up to a nearby cliff to get a different view of this spectacular mountain.

I’d highly recommend checking out this area. It came as a nice break from the busy city and still provides some great natural beauty!
