After being in London for about 1 month, I felt like it was time to get out into nature and get away from the busy city. Luckily, there are plenty of trains that venture out of London every day.
After a 2 hour train ride, we ended up in the town of Eastbourne, which is on the southern coast of England. As fall is rolling in, it wasn’t exactly swimming weather but it was perfect weather for the hike that we had planned to the neighboring town of Seaford.

After getting off the train, it’s only about a 15 min walk to the coast. What is nice is once you hit the coast, the trail begins from there. Along the beach there are plenty of shops and nice hotels that seemingly get busy during the summer months. During this time, the town seemed to clear out and became rather quiet which allowed us to avoid any busy crowds.

The Trail
The initial climb up the cliff is a pretty difficult start to the trail as it’s rather steep. Once you reach the top there is a good stretch where it’s flat and provides great views of the town of Eastbourne.

The rest of the trail is pretty up and down throughout. With steep climbs and fast descents, it’s definitely not a simple stroll. But, if you can bear that along with some strong winds occasionally, the views of the coast are unbeaten.

These seaside cliffs are truly unique. After spending lots of time in the city, visiting the coastal cliffs of Eastbourne was a refreshing experience.
We didn’t go all the way to Seaford as the whole hike takes about 5 hours. About 2 hours in, we turned around at a rest stop and even walked down to the beach to see the cliffs from the bottom.

The Beachy Head
If you’re heading back to Eastbourne, on your way there’s a peaceful restaurant on the trail that is a great place to rest and grab a bite to eat called The Beachy Head.

This journey took us a whole day from London and we were on the trail for about 5 hours. It was truly a refreshing experience and pretty unforgettable too.
