Visiting Burano – Day Trip From Venice

About a 45 min boat ride from Venice is a tiny Italian island called Burano. This is the kind of place that you see in a painting. Before the tourists found out about this place, it used to be an old fishing village where the fisherman painted their houses bright colors in order to make it easier to find in the thick fog.

Today, millions of people are attracted to the island to get immersed in this colorful town. While Burano seems to operate mostly off of tourism now, I thought it was still a very unique place where you’re welcome to wander off to get your own experience.

When I visited, I thought that Murano was going to be the same as Burano but they were completely different. I actually liked Burano more because even though it’s a lot smaller, I felt like there was more to do and just more to explore.

Overall, we spent about 3 hours on the island and mostly just walked around the town. There were plenty of shops and restaurants to check out too.
